The Lake Erie Mysteries Series
Here’s what our readers have to say about Sunny Side Up. (4.6 out of 5 Stars average on Amazon)
“Nancy Drew please meet Janet Evanovich. That is the enigmatic, mysterious, and hilarious adventure you will discover between the pages of this feel good caper. Francie and June are the two main characters whom I think most females can relate a girlfriend relationship to. It’s a feel good book with just enough laughs. The ending was a shocker, didn’t see the twist coming but totally loved the plot. I suggest grabbing a bottle of wine or two, slip off the shoes, take home some chicken (forget cooking), and enjoy the adventure. Totally looking forward to the next one. Cheers!”
“The mystery sneaks up on the reader amidst beautifully written descriptions of the locale and the relationships – especially of Francie and June. There are many twists and turns as the story unfolds that keep the plot moving. When all is said and done, the ending makes good sense. The best part, however, are the characters – they are well-developed and unique, but not too perfect, very human. The descriptions of the lake town and Kelleys are inviting and relaxing. This is not a story to rush through, but one to savor and enjoy. I will be looking for the next in the Lake Erie series.”
“This is a fun cozy with amateur sleuths who reminded me of Lucy and Ethel. I laughed out loud at some of their antics- especially those involving the inflatable rafts! The setting is beautifully described- I felt as though I was on vacation right along with Francie and June.”
“I loved this book from beginning to end! A great little ‘cozy’ full of wonderful imagery and fabulous characters…would recommend to all! Thank you Maureen K Howard!”
“I did enjoy this book immensely. Loved loved LOVED the June character. Reminded me of a young (very young) me. The setting was to die for! (Pun intended). Just when you have relaxed and are floating along with the bucolic atmosphere – BAM. Well written. The end had me scratching my head … why didn’t I think of that? It was actually staring me in the face for a while and the writing was artful enough that I never even saw it! By the way, what’s a chocolate martini taste like? Now I have to go out and try one!
Book 2 in the series has fast won the hearts of readers. (4.8 out of 5 Stars average on Amazon)
“This cozy mystery was a blast! I enjoyed the twists and turns, and the main characters were very lovable and funny. The roller coaster on the cover was perfect, as this book was a roller coaster ride filled with suspense, giggles and just plain fun! I read it in one sitting because I simply couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended!”
“Francie and June are back and determined to stay out of trouble. But trouble is right around the corner when they attend a Drama Conference at a beautiful lakeside resort. One minute they are VIP guests, the next minute they are under suspicion for murder of one of the resort’s family members. The story takes more twists and turns than the roller coaster attraction. From crazed clowns to greedy casino owners, the story will keep you guessing as these two strong women try to untangle themselves from the web of lies surrounding them instead of turning to Francie’s lawyer husband to bail them out of trouble.”
Wow, I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish as Francie and June take us on another adventure. Sunny Side Up is the first book in the Lake Erie Mysteries and was a wonderful read, as well. Deviled takes us to a level of excitement and intrigue you could not imagine! There will be no dull moments in this book, I will guarantee you. It is simply spectacular and perfectly written. I did not want the book to end. How often can you say that about a book? I was blown away! I cannot wait for Book 3.
“I loved this! I hadn’t read book one and it really doesn’t matter – this works well as a standalone and the backstory is kept to a discrete minimum.
The prose style is light and very polished, and the narrative flows in a way that takes the reader along easily.
I liked the two main characters very much. They were nice people, the sort of women you can identify with and would like to be friends with. The dialogue is lively and in places I laughed out loud.
It is actually a very fast-paced story, more so than I’d been expecting – there are things happening all the time. It’s balanced well with some lovely informative details about boats and the selective resort which gave me a fun insight into a world I know nothing about.
I’d recommend this book and look forward to reading more (starting with book one!).”
